This years annual show is on Sunday 18th August at 2:00pm
During August Granville Park Allotments holds it’s own Family Open day and Show. The aim of the show is to provide the opportunity for site members to celebrate their planting season, to open the grounds to the public and encourage friendly competition.
Site members enter their fruit, vegetables and home produce in the various classes available. We encourage all members to attend the show, whether taking part in the competition appeals or not. The show is a chance to socialise and also fund raise for the site via the sale of allotment produce.
The annual show has always been a very successful event. Entries to the competition must be placed in the ground hut by 12pm on the day of the competition. The grounds are open to the public from 2pm. We serve tea, coffee and soft drinks; along with homemade cakes at very reasonable prices! Sales of allotment grown vegetables, fruit and flowers, homemade preserves and general bric-a-brac, again at give-a-way prices, are a highlight of the day.
The annual show is judged by an independent adjudicator. Competition entries are displayed to the public following the announcement of results. Winning produce are also available for sale as donated by prize winners. Prizes are presented to site members in the following sections – vegetable section, fruit section, home produce section and overall show calculated on a points system. Points are accumulated from individual class entries. Site members may enter as many classes as they wish.
In addition to the annual show there are 4 more competitions.
1. The UAGS annual competition. There are prizes available for “best plot”, “best flowerbed” and “best onions”. These categories are judged separately by an independent adjudicator during July.
2. The Trafford Allotment Competition. There are prizes available for “best plot”, “best flowerbed” and “best onions”. Again, this is judged during July
